Salacoa Creek Watershed
The Salacoa Watershed Project officially began in 2012 when a grant was awarded to Limestone Valley. This Section 319 Clean Water Act grant was focused around the development of a Watershed Management Plan (WMP) to be implemented within the watershed to improve water quality and ensure additional degradation of water quality does not occur. A significant effort was undertaken to analyze sources of nonpoint source pollution, conduct extensive watershed mapping, lead volunteer outreach events within the community, and collect baseline data on water quality within the watershed during this development process. The WMP has now been written by Limestone Valley and approved by a local stakeholder group, as well Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD), and the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Despite the completion of the plan, this project still awaits funding for implementation to conduct “on-the-ground” projects to reduce nonpoint pollution and improve the watershed.
