South Chickamauga Creek Tree Planting Event
Saturday March 2nd, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
As part of a larger effort to improve the South Chickamauga Creek Watershed, Limestone Valley RC&D Council has partnered with the City of Ringgold to hold an event at which volunteers can assist with planting tree seedlings in the floodplains of South Chickamauga Creek. This event will be held along the Nature Trail near downtown Ringgold. There will be two main stations at which to check-in and pickup the tools and trees for the planting. After the trees are planted, efforts will be made to remove any trash that was washed up during the recent floods. Volunteers most interested in planting trees are encouraged to show up early.
Station 1: Most volunteers will likely want to meet at station 1 since it is centrally located in the park. This check-in station will be near the Nature Trailhead parking lot (adjacent to the ballfields and pool).
Station2: This check-in station will be located next to “little five points” at the creek (across the street from the Little General Playground).
Volunteers are encouraged to bring a shovel and RSVP (if convenient).
Please RSVP by contacting Dan Huser of Limestone Valley RC&D Council at firstname.lastname@example.org or (423) 544-9076.
If you have an interest in sitting on the Watershed Advisory Committee for the Coahulla Creek Watershed, our first meeting is scheduled for 2/9/13 in Dalton at 10 am. This meeting will focus on the new Clean Water Act Section 319 grant for the watershed and what it is about. In the meetings to follow, the watershed advisory committee will help guide the process of developing a watershed management plan and ensuring the community is on board with the plan. If you have an interest in attending or are planning on it, please contact Josh Smith at (423) 309-2630 or email@example.com so that we can have coffee, surveys and an introductory handout, as well as a seat ready for you. Josh will also be able to provide the location of the meeting and directions.
